Old mine "Marienglashöhle" Friedrichroda
In the last 150 years more than 6 million visitors have visited the mine “Marienglashöhle” in Friedrichroda. In the abandoned mine you will learn a lot about the origins of the Thuringian Forest as well as the mining industry around the climatic spa of Friedrichroda. Experience an insight into the differenet rock layers of the 110 m long entrance tunnel.
In 1778 the crystal grotto was discovered in the mine “Marienglashöhle” and is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe, in which gypsum crystals can be admired up to 90 cm in length. Impressive water reflections await you at the cave lake in the lower sole.
